Writing
I've written hundreds of stories and columns for both print and online publication on topics ranging from legislative policies and community engagement projects to the Seattle Mariners and roller derby. Here just a few of my favorite stories. (Most stories also feature my photography).
Para-educators provide vital outreach to state’s most vulnerable students
I wrote this op-ed column for PSE's then president, Kim Wilson. It appeared in The Seattle Times.
“I’m just one little old lady who said ‘hey, this isn’t right.’”
At AFT-Oregon, I was fortunate enough to interview the spunky Everice Moro, an AFT-Oregon member, who won a monumental lawsuit against the state of Oregon.
Stuffing the Bus Again
PSE's members in Washington state's Whatcom County host an annual food drive right before the holidays. For a week they stuff a bus with as many non-perishable foods as they can and then deliver it to the food bank. They often raise more than 10,000 lbs of food.
Compass 2 Campus Guides Young Students to College
PSE's members organize and assist with an all-campus event at Western Washington University. Hundreds of Bellingham's younger students get a chance to visit a college campus and experience the life of a college student.
The Many Faces of Joyce
At PSE, I was able to meet Joyce, bus driver and cosplayer.
Cancer Motivates Lute Pitcher
I got the chance to meet Max Beatty, pitcher for Pacific Lutheran University's baseball team, MLB draft prospect, and cancer fighter.
Lute Lets Loose in Rollerderby
While at PLU, I was able to meet fellow student who goes by Rayanne by day and rollerderbier RayWOWW by night.
The Team Behind the Scenes
There's a whole other team no one talks about at PLU - the athletic trainers. They keep PLU's players safe on the court and help them recover so they can get back on it.
Biologist Breakdances out of Shell
I was lucky enough to meet Stephanie Jones, a shy biology major with an boisterous hobby.
Longboarders Monkey Around
If you've been on a college campus in the last 10 years, you might have noticed a few characters on a longboard.
‘Camp’ boasts spectacular vernacular
My review of Childish Gambino's album "Camp."
